Hi, I'm Greg Jones.

I've spent 25 years in business development operating inside organizations across enterprise and GovTech, and built and sold AI and real estate businesses.

Today I'm the founder of 1099 Nation, creator of the 1099 MBA, and author of Rise of the 1099 Nation. I teach, speak, and write on the global 1099 solopreneur economy, based on extensive travel and firsthand experience helping independent clients and companies compete.

That perspective started taking shape in the late 1990s when I began traveling specifically to study how different countries and cultures facilitate localized business, with a focus on solopreneurs and independent workers. To date I have visited 44 US states, 90% of Africa, all of Central America, the Caribbean, South America, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Spain, India, Pakistan, Libya, and Yemen. What those places taught me about how people build income outside traditional employment structures became the intellectual foundation for everything that followed.

I established 1099 Nation in 2015 to track the macroeconomic shift toward solopreneurship, which economists project will be the dominant career structure by 2031. In 2020 I began sharing free private growth notes with clients in banking and government to help small businesses navigate the chaos of that moment. Those notes became the foundation for 1099 Tips, a free weekly newsletter that went public in 2026 and is now read by 10,000+ solopreneurs and independent workers every Wednesday.
